Is he just named after or is he descended from the late great and possibly future president? Wikipedia tells us: After Davis was captured in 1865, he was charged with treason (although never convicted) and was stripped of his eligibility to run for public office. This limitation was removed in 1978, 89 years after his death.

Hell's teeth! I'm amazed he can say something like that and not get hauled over the coals in the papers and then sacked - if that were Britain, he'd be out of the party in a flash and facing a police investigation
