Return to Next Island

The movement works like Entropia now - yay! Plus things seem a bit more finished. I am currently trying to run to a place north of a revival terminal but keep dying over and over and over... One time I was within a short distance of it.

Finally swan around to it. Unlike Entropia (as far as I've seen) there are no monsters in the sea, so swimming is safe (but come onto the shore and they are all over you). I'm up to the 'kill 10 Paroos' bit, but they need to be small, weak, sickly Paroos.

One revival place has no automatic gun towers and a Paroo was standing there when I rezzed and killed me a few times. 'Hey, not fair!'

Above: Warming our hands in the warmth of the Tiki-styled automatic gun turret.

Everything is Entropia-esque but in a funny hat. About half or more of the players I saw today were from Entropia. There was a space craft (or at least a mech-y vehicle), and people healed me out of the goodness of their tiny, Entropian hearts.

Errr... the forecast low temperature of the day is 38 degrees but it's 37 NOW and I just heard there might be snow.

Showers in the morning...possibly mixed with snow in the morning. No snow accumulation. Showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce small hail. Highs in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

This film was quite funny.

Tron: Legacy was pretty damned awful, with no emotion, character, acting, depth, story, anything EXCEPT very nicely done graphics (exceptt for the lighted suit of the main character).
Why do I get things like that out? I hate Disney, I never saw Tron, and the modern jettisoning of the old plot framework (main characters never starts as underdogs who slowly gain power - they are more like superheroes) means there's not much in it for me.

A virtual world with quests and time travel, Next Island is part of Entropia.

Seems obvious after the fact that time travel would be a good idea.

So far I:
  • Tried to tp there using my Entropia acct but it demanded 40,000ped ==:O
  • Thought beginners couldn't be killed; got killed
  • Fell off a waterfall
  • Stumbled into a house
  • Accidentally found a more advanced quest and accepted it
  • Gathered some sort of plant (????)
  • Now I'm sort of lost heh
I saw:
  • Their movement controls are supposed to be like Old Skool Entropia (click and go) but Entropia doesn't use that (they use both MB = better) so it doesn't work and they don't have the new system apparently
  • As everything is, it's harder if you have one hand
  • It reminds me of There (jungles/monkeys/ruins) crossed with Blue Mars (Cryengine, fashion), and its palette is rather unmodulated
  • Ready-built houses must be for rent

Entropia

I got my (usual) email from MindArk saying to play or die, so I downloaded the patches (PE is 11g atm) and went running about :-D Entropia doesn't let you alter your av when you like, however occasionally after a big change there's the opportunity - which I have now. In about 2003 or 4 I had sticky-up yellow/green hair which interfered with shooting a bit, then I had a chestnut bob and looked normal. ATM I have green hair knobs and I'm Black, and I dunno what I'll change to.

I stumbled into a PvP zone and just had to keep running - Entropia doesn't let you tp from any but fixed teleporters. Even logging out takes time so you can't escape death/looting that way either.

Seems like it would receive a ton of wear and tear. I wouldn't want to put much money into it for that reason (although it's an idea I've always held - that a portable computer need not be rigid) (iPad/Pod/Phone have a busticating glass thing - it probably is no different as long as replacement parts are available). Also wheres the solar panel? Pretty, though, and maybe it will take over that niche.

A young architect sent to oversee a job in a tsunami-devastated beach town meets a girl and is faced with small-town attitudes. Interesting mainly for its picture of modern Thailand (albeit deliberately focusing on the mouldering of damaged buildings as a metaphor), nothing much happens in this film of greyed tones and nuanced dialogue.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

The makers of Combat Cards, a card game that is played in
Second Life, have taken an innovative approach to creating
a new expansion based on the players and setting of an
actual roleplay region in Second Life.

Doc Boffin and Osprey Therian, creators of Combat Cards
have worked closely with Vooper Werribee, owner of the
Splintered Rock Second Life region to produce a new set of
cards. Each card shows one of the roleplay characters
who plays at Splintered Rock.

Both Combat Cards and Splintered Rock have a long history
in Second Life. Combat Cards was first released in 2006
and at the time Doc Boffin was also a Linden employee
known as Babbage Linden. Splintered Rock was originally a
roleplay area based on the science fiction world of the
Dune novels by Frank Herbert. However, in 2008 lawyers for
The Herbert Estate requested the removal of any Dune
intellectual property from Second Life.

Vooper Werribee (real life name: Darren Green) said, "The
Splintered Rock set of cards shows that we have moved on
from the 'Dune issue' and benefit from the incredible
creativity and originality of roleplayers in Second Life.
The cards do a great job of showcasing that. Osprey worked
incredibly hard with each player to get a picture that
captured the 'heart and soul' of their character and the
new set of cards is a fantastic way to let people know
about the style and setting of the roleplay on Splintered
Rock. I'm thrilled to be involved in this!"

This method of producing a new expansion for Combat Cards
illustrates the flexibility that is available to developers
of virtual games. The creators of Combat Cards may take a
similar approach to their next expansion, perhaps featuring
another Second Life roleplaying region. There is also the
possibility of producing customised cards on request.

However, one final task remains before the Splintered
Rock set of Combat Cards can be released:
The new cards all need names.
If you would like to help name the cards then send an IM
in Second Life with your suggested card name to Vooper
Werribee. It also a chance to make a few Linden
Dollars as L$200 will be paid for each card name that
is used.
You can see the set of Splintered Rock Combat Cards here (1).

A vast field of debris, swept out to sea following the Japan earthquake and tsunami, is floating towards the U.S. West Coast, it has emerged.More than 200,000 buildings were washed out by the enormous waves that followed the 9.0 quake on March 11.
There have been reports of cars, tractor-trailers, capsized ships and even whole houses bobbing around in open water.

Ozone layer faces record loss over Arctic
Associated Press,04.05.11, 04:14 AM EDT

GENEVA -- The U.N. weather agency says the depletion of the ozone layer shielding Earth from damaging ultraviolet rays has reached an unprecedented low over the Arctic this spring, because of harmful chemicals and a cold winter.

The World Meteorological Organization said Tuesday that the Earth's fragile ozone layer in the Arctic region has suffered a loss of about 40 percent from the start of winter until late March exceeding the previous seasonal loss of about 30 percent.
