Film Festival
I watched "The Science of Sleep"* on Friday, "3-Iron"** yesterday, and today threw the last DVD from SJ into the tray: "Babel."*** I was surprised to see the winsome "Stephane" from Sleep in the film Babel.

*Fun to look at. It was in my Netflix queue but SJ gave me a copy.
**From Netflix; golfing is different in Korea.
***Just seen part so far but is somewhat interesting.

What did you think of the Science of Sleep?

I have to say I hated it and was so dissapointed. I LOVED "Eternal Sunshine..." and this was such a let down - the leading male character was the least likable lead I have seen in a film since...oooo, pick one: Ralphy Finnes in Schindler's List, the step dad in Pan's Labyrinth, any of the bad guys in 8mm. Seriously, that man took characterisation beyond challenging and deep, deep DEEP into "kill the whiney twunt" land. The lass next door should have punted him in the nuts and found herself a nice MAN, not a self-absorbed BABY.

That film made me and Mrs A not speak just for the simple fact I made her watch it think it would be good. Afterwards there was a general funk of hatred in the air that took a good night's sleep to fix.

That film was even worse than The Strangers and Reign of Fire and they were both so shit as to redefine the entry requirements to the shit club.

Anyhoo, what did you think? ;-D

I like all the animated things, and the people at his work, and the way he and she were working together on the animation, and her sewn thingss, and the skiing animation, and lots of parts of it, but like a dream it was fragmented and didn't add up to a complete story. It's as though it is realised only when I think back on it - the part in the beginning where the two girls were laughing at him, the crazy note he wrote to her when he fell asleep in the bath - because then its fragmentation makes it just like a half-remembered dream. It was, sort of by design, not a fulfilling experience as it couldn't make sense and fold into a beautiful completeness, but it was absorbing and unique. I liked it.

The odd dreamlike nature that ran throughout, I liked. The animations and dreams were great. He, on the otherhand, wanted the shoeing of a lifetime :)

Well, a person in a dream and a ZOMG totally effing nuts person are not exactly totally removed.

I want to ask for thoughts about improving the world -- what do people need? How can things be organised?
