Amanda Linden said this today:
"There are lots of folks that like V2 and we're seeing adoption rise steadily. What's important to keep in mind is that we're not done with Viewer 2--but only at the beginning of the development curve and we need your help--and others in the forums--to make it better. We have an aggressive development cycle with some exciting features coming in, some of which are mentioned in these comments. And, our QA team is hard at work smashing bugs. We've fixed several thousand and we have many more to go...
That said, we celebrate choice. If you don't want to use V2, you're welcome to continue using V1.23 and other approved 3rd party viewers. Viewer 2 was designed for new Residents and we'll be incorporating other features/usability design for builders and others as we release new versions. We would never "mandate" one viewer because it would be nearly impossible to design one viewer that meets the diverse sets of needs across the entire SL community.
I'm not sure how this squares against the report (must dig that up) that old LL viewers will be unuseable 30 days after 2.1 goes live. The second paragraph sounds a lot like my old jira suggestion.
