How similar are the waves in water to the waves in air? When I see ripples in the water are there invisible ripples in the air that match?

Why are human reproductive organs surrounded by hair?

1) I'm sure you are right about the ripples. If not, you *should* be!

2) I don't know, but at least we have the option and wherewithall to make it not so :-D

p.s. Did you know that the nose hairs of city dwellers are thicker than those of country livers? I dread to think what Sal's are like after all that time in Babbage!

I didn't know that about nose hairs.

I believe that air behaves very much like water, and fluid dynamics are involved in both substances. When we use an oar to propel a boat, it creates swirls that strongly resemble the swirls formed in air by the passage of airplane wings. We can't see air except indirectly, so it is not obvious.

I also believe that we have pubic hair for decoration and odor retention. The most fragrant areas of the body have hair on them. This sends signals to other humans about our status (ready and willing, or get lost, buddy).

Oh, good thought about the hair, Enj.

If you look at my time lapse vids the mist (visible air) doesn't correspond to the water really, but I can easily imagine it doing so.

I think nose hair is thick and bushy on a craggy old man. SO THERE.

Water and air both have currents and streams, why not ripples too? If you toss a rock into water you get ripples. When a bomb goes off, doesn't the blast ripple outward in some fashion as waves?

And as far as the nose hair is concerned.. let's just say that Babbage, luckily, has always had many inventive mechanisms for dealing with nasal thickets.

Well yes, but I don't see it matching which is all I meant. There's no reason it should, though. It's just so easy to picture, mentally.

He has?

If I could just see, at one time, water movement, air movement, sound waves, smell waves, and anything else I'm sure I'd have a greater understanding. Just thinking about it makes me think of Mozart - his music has always conjured up numbers for me.

Hair usually matches, nose = chest = pubes = pits ... the relative density of air and water changes the appearance, but my understanding is that the waves are basically the same.

Mozart conjures up waves in my mind. And hair. Wavy hair.

I want to ask for thoughts about improving the world -- what do people need? How can things be organised?
