Reading all the information about head injuries and their long-term effects makes me wonder what all *my* head injuries add up to. I've had some rather serious concussions; a NYer article recently said athletes with head injuries have a much greater liklihood of developing (for instance) amyotrophic lateral sclerosis than the general population. The same article said women are more susceptible to effects following injury than are men.

Well, I had a racehorse go over backwards on me on a paved road. Bystanders said my head sounded like a cocoanut when it hit the ground.
And another time I had just dismounted from a very well-bred (entire) colt at Delaware Park and taken my helmet off while holding him to be washed down and he reared up and came down on my head. Those were the two worst, I think.
I was thinking about it yesterday: 99% of the major damage I did to myself was before the age of 20. Not to much I can do about it now.
