The human race is promoting its own doom by treating and curing illnesses, which are nature's mechanism for strengthening the species as a whole as weak/susceptible specimens die before they can breed.

somewhat related, i just started reading "The Wild Life of our Bodies" -- many of our diseases and illnesses are related to our killing off of other species, both within us and outside us...
