I'm feeling badly done to since I am having to be on my old puter to clean it up - heh. How quickl;y we switch allegiance :-D Can't wait to go back to the new one.
I've been monitoring craigslist and have decided it's a good place to buy a gaming rig because geeky young men who are slightly OC build great systems then sell them when they decide to: upgrade again, travel, go mobile, go to college, get engaged, etc., etc. Their peers all have their own builds, and so that avenue is closed to them. Craigslist is a natural stomping ground.
I myself have never had a computer that was not built for me, so brand names/box systems seem weird, but I'd guess most people buy some pre-made package from Dell or such, and are not interested in what to them are unbranded (no overreaching brand name like Gateway) computers. The components are what you should be looking at.
I'd better get to work on this beastlet.

Those of us who are less well-informed do not know what components would be best, and we tend to buy what is recommended at the computer store because we have no clue and do not want to learn the hard way.
I agree totally, and that's why I believe the really nice self-built gaming rigs seem to go for much less than they're worth. Everything must be subject to intense scrutiny before purchase, i.e. looking to see what hardware is installed and having a positive 'reading' of the seller's vibes is necessary for me.
