I don't know why Curiosity captured my fancy. I am not usually much interested in space doings, and hardly gave the other Mars gear a thought. Who knows - I just go with the flow at this point.

it's exciting to see humans plan something and build it with such thought and care that it works perfectly without any opportunity to test and tweak it! that's beside the point of is it for good or evil. it worked!!! we made it and we really really tried our best and it worked!!
god help us if most of our plans actually worked.

It seemed to me that the JPL really went out of their way to include the general public as much as possible in this landing event. The proceeding voyage (months) and development (years) was probably pretty dry for the public. But they really nailed it with providing lots of ways for the public to participate in the landing: NASA & JPL Twitter accounts; xBox simulations, content-rich web site, RSS feeds, Facebook pages, etc. The real-time streaming video coverage of the landing put us all there with the JPL team as Curiosity was landing. It was great to see their reaction to its’ success and to their years of efforts. Most excellent! One of those events that we can all share with them as fellow humans. A bit like what we SL residents get to experience with the Grid-wide activities of Magellan Linden.
