Bye Bye Forum (again)
It's the end of the blogorum today -supposedly something new is rolling out next week. I've been through so many endings of the official SL forums it's hard to get worked up about it. In fact this iteration, on the despised Jive software, harbours a lot of useless forumites and not much content. The next software is called (apparently) "Lithium." o.O LL should perhaps stop picking forum software by the words they think best apply to their customers.
The original forum was best, but most of that was due to the freshness of SL and how it attracted very interesting people.

Well, I've always taken great pains to be a mild-mannered forum poster, but even *I* have been "moderated."

Over on the blogorums Vryl Valkyrie pointed out this video about the circa 1995 virtual world Starbright, which linked hospitalised children and gave them access to social life, learning, and fun. To me the most illustrative exchange:
Steven: And where are you right now? (meaning in real life)
Child: By the castle. (meaning inside cyberspace)
Just so Second Life is a place and should be treated as one, NOT a product.
