The last big earthquake we had around here was centred just very slightly north of where I worked at Wa He Lut Indian School. The ground rolled in waves like the sea, and there was a deafening noise similar to trains.
That was in Feb. 2001, a 6.8, and called the Nisqually Earthquake. We evacuated quickly, as if Alder Dam or the Nisqually Glacier get jiggy there is something like 20 minutes to annihilation for everything downstream.
