/me goes to the SL forums to look in the Machinima Forum to find out WHY the application for the Month of Machinima is for last month. sees that THE FORUMS HAVE BEEN JIGGLED AROUND AGAIN.

Why is Machinima put with Animation?
That makes no sense at all.

Is there a world-wide shortage of subforums atm resulting in unassociated topics being crammed in together?

Hmmm.

(Responding in anger and frustration one would guess, to a jira comment) Brodesky Linden: Why don't you stop wasting time and put in comments in the correct tickets. We filter your emails to trash. Gmails makes that very easy to do.

"We filter your emails to trash." is the new SL meme.

Weird Weird Weird

From ABC News:
"A former chairman of the Republican National Committee and political director for President George W. Bush has told a journalist he is gay.

Ken Mehlman was political director in the White House in 2004, when Republicans and the White House used their position opposing gay marriage to great affect.

Now, Mehlman tells Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic that he will take part in a fundraiser in support of gay marriage in September.

"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," Mehlman told Ambinder. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago."

Mehlman also told Ambinder he wished he had done more to bring the Republican party into the gay community.

"What I do regret, and think a lot about, is that one of the things I talked a lot about in politics was how I tried to expand the party into neighborhoods where the message wasn't always heard. I didn't do this in the gay community at all,” he said."

I mean, what can lie behind that kind of thing? It makes no sense. The only possible answer besides the crackpot "study" theory is that the people in charge have complete and utter hubris, discount everything users say as being from idiots, and don't use SL in anything other than a very limited, company employee fashion. I HATE thinking that. But WTF?

Duh.

"Biologists: Killer whales 'neurotic' in captivity"

Anyone surprised by that has never been around animals - or captive humans. Even long-domesticated animals such as horses develop various kinds of unbreakable self-destructive neurotic behaviours if kept in an unnatural environment - say, a stable, which is physically restrictive and boring.

Let's take a wild creature and pen it up then make it do tricks to amuse us!

An Ex Brain

It's a colossal drag, but my brain doesn't work any more. It hasn't worked for a couple of years, I think. I'm not sure how long because my brain doesn't work any more, of course. I keep thinking (that word again!) that it's a strange, temporary glitch and it will be back to normal in a minute or two, but it's slowly dawning on me that it is broken and won't be restored ever. That's horrifying as it used to work perfectly well, but I suppose not totally unexpected in someone with m.s.

I'm not sure what to do now - keep battling through the static of disconnected and truncated near-thoughts, give up and resign myself to life post-brain, or leap off the balcony like Tosca after she discovered that the perfidy of Scarpia had resulted in the death of her brain... uh, Cavaradossi, I mean. *ponders*

George Bush in tears as he makes promise to Barack Obama

/me is in tears as she wants to see that evil crew of #@&#%$&s dragged out in chains.

The voting process needs to be fixed in a hurry. Millions of (Democratic) votes were thrown out because the Republicans have corrupted the system so thoroughly. It shouldn't be necessary for an incredible effort to be made just to overtake those evil efforts. As someone pointed out, it isn't even possible to get an international watch on the voting as the Americans chose not to use a popular vote system.

Uh... WTF?

A person is quoted in the New Yorker thusly: "When you think about it, five to eight billion dollars isn't that much.'

/me thinks.

That is an amount beyond my comprehension. Five to eight... uh... wait, I have the five to eight part down ok. Five to eight dollars isn't that much. Billion... billion... can't do it.

She was talking about a sum backing a private charitable foundation (well, ok, Leona Helmsley's foundation for dogs).

I have nothing against the foundation and its goals, and the quoted person is not a foundation employee, but the founder of a New York non-profit hoping to make improvements in the way animals are treated (a non-profit that is in line for some Helmsley bux), but jF on a stick - to claim five to eight billion dollars "isn't that much" is insane.

LA Times
"A U.S. destroyer and a Russian warship headed Saturday for a possible confrontation with pirates who hijacked a cargo ship off the Somali coast loaded with battle tanks, machine guns and a crew of 21.
Despite being pursued by ships from two of the world's biggest naval powers, the pirates showed no sign of surrendering the Ukrainian vessel Faina, which they boarded Thursday as it headed to Kenya. Instead, unconfirmed reports said they were demanding a $35 million ransom to turn over their unconventional booty that includes 33 Russian-built T-72 tanks."

==========:O

From a Guardian news story about the severed human feet washing up in British Columbia:

'"The big picture is that there are body parts washing up all over the place all the time," said Curtis Ebbesmeyer, a retired oceanographer-turned-beachcomber who is writing a book about flotsam and jetsam to be published next year titled The Floating World.'

I saw yesterday's news first in my feed aggregator, which is annoying crammed full of 8 million "I'm testing BLOGHUD to see if it works" entries from WorldofSL and 450,000,000 Massively snippets about MMORPGs I have no interest in. I petulantly went in and excised the two offenders, but I'm sure I'll go back and add them again today.

It's like a compulsive's abode full of boxes of useless old strawberry punnets and string-tied newspaper bundles. I tried the flamethrower approach, but it was not a precise enough tool.

Update: I use Google homepage atm, and have feed, Gmail, etc. on it. I was using a flamethrower spork on it because I wanted to subscribe to a feed based on labels and couldn't see a way to do it, but making a new tab and calling it Second Life resulted in something that might be useful.

Selfishness and Stupidity Reach Record Highs

According to the Seattle Times:

"A Tennessee physician who phoned in three bomb threats to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in July in an effort to keep his plane from leaving without him pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony charge of false information and threats.

Kou Wei Chiu, 31, of Nashville, faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced Feb. 22 in U.S. District Court in Seattle.

According to court documents, Chiu admitted calling in three bomb threats July 25 in an effort to hold his Northwest Airlines flight to Memphis at the gate because he was running late.

When the first and second calls from an airport pay phone had no effect, he called in a third threat, indicating there was a bomb on board the flight, according to court documents.

By then the plane had taken off. The third call prompted the plane to return to the airport, and it was grounded for several hours.

Chiu was arrested after people reported hearing him at the pay phones making the threats."

What giant prim?

Although I was with three other people apparently no one else saw the giant color-changing megaprim Box 1024x1024x100. It was selectable and I ARed it, but why could they not see it? Draw distance? I've had bizarro crap since being hit by griefers this afternoon - I was stuck offline for ages, seem to see oddball things, and it's made me very tired.

My Brilliant (New) Career: Cabbage Patch Doll :(

Found on teh intarwebz just now, "Oh my gosh! This is too weird!!! I ordered an Asian Cabbage Patch Doll online and got her yesterday. I put her aside without looking at her name. Just this morning I happen to look at her name. I couldn't believe it...her name is Vivian Kendall. We are considering the names Vivian and Jacinda for our daughter. So now I wonder if this is a *sign* that I should name her Vivian."
