reminds me of my aunt emma who used to send crabbed cramped postcards berating people for being sheep and following the latest linguistic travesty such as using nouns as verbs, instead of sticking like glue to THE WAY SHE LEARNED IT... LOL would have made her weep -- nome sain?

I have seen the English language change and change and change again, as swiftly and with all the variety of French fashion. Anglophones adopt new vocabulary, orthographies and usages with (as Lucy's aunt notes) sheep-like determination, and abandon the old and lame to the wolves of obsolescence. The interrogative declarative and run-on question was once a mark of feminine utterance: linguists in the Seventies observed it built consensus and blunted assertions. It since became a staple of Valley-Talk and was quickly taken up in televised comedy, guaranteeing wide dispersion and social acceptibility. Now fashion and the popularity of the American president's rhetoric (studied around the world in all languages) turns against it.
