A bad time to have no heat.

Labels: ,

Well, that was an ordeal.

I lost power at about 3am last Thursday after the mighty snow storm and it just came on - meaning no heat, water, light, etc., etc. I am sadly diminished and may never fully recover. Maybe I will, though - now that things are on the path to normalcy. It has been cold - see-your-breath cold at first - 24 hours a day for days.

I thought it went out Wednesday but now I'm not sure so will say Thursday. What's one day to an eternity, anyway.
*************************************************

I need to clarify: what follows is two old posts from the iPod which, of course, I could write but not post at the time. They are not new, I have power now. Sorry for the confusion.

From the stupid iPod which has no staying power:
Day two with no power, heat, light, or water. I can see my breath! This is turning into an ordeal, but heigh ho, it's an adventure!

Stupid iPod will run out of juice long before it would be justified. I can see the screen in the dark which makes it useful since it's more or less dark all day. It's 8:49 am and dark ATM :p

*checks the time*

Come back, Little Trizzities!
The power went out at about 3am yesterday; I spent most of the day in bed but that's less of an option today as it makes my back hurt and generally does me no good whatsoever. It's well above freezing now, however I'm in an ice cave, more or less, with snow and ice all around. All day and night huge slabs of snowy ice were catapulting themselves of the roof and down three storeys to the ground, hitting the railing the way. The sound was tremendous.
OK it's 10:24. This is officially old.
I saw weak amber flashes last night (power crews at work) which made me think there'd be power today :(
I got this iPod case for its lanyard, but another style is needed as it's too thick and also makes taking pictures near impossible for me (though as I had thought the flap makes a stand useful for video, a bit). It would work better for me the other way around. Ah, well.
Typing isn't too awful on it for me, which is a miracle.
10:39 :((

Con came over at 2.

Con: (grimacing as she shows me her wrapped-up ribs)
Me: ZOMG I forgot you had busticated ribs. Did I hug you?
Con: No, no, you were fine. I have been grabbed by people though.
Me: You should wear a big button reading I HAVE BROKEN RIBS.
Con: I want a stop sign paddle.
Me: Nah, no one would pay attention.
Con: I have a hard time walking Frida - she's so strong she yanks me over. (Frida is about four inches high.)
Me: You need a walker (thinking a mechanised horse-walker).
Con: A hamster wheel.
Me: You could tie those baconish things in front of her... what are they called? And generate electricity to run a radio.
Con: Snausages!
Me: That's it! Why can't there be a governmental system based on humor? The government could make the power company buy the electricity Frida generates and the electricity could be in units called snausages.
Con: This month you used 30 snausages of electricity.

I can dream.

MY FREAKING POWER WENT OUT at about 10:30 and just came on at 1:30 a.m.

The power company was replacing some of its rotting infrastructure today, and I was notified my trizzities would poop out at 8am and return at 4:30. I knew that was their big, fat estimate so wasn't surprised when my power was still on at 10am, but I got on and off the puter quickly and ten minutes later was powerless. It came back on about half an hour ago, though, so unless it goes out again I am getting off lightly.

Power went out twice - once when I was making someone's business card and once when I was editing video. WTH? Crumbling infrastructure, anyone?

I just got home from jin shin. When I left the trizzity men were blocking the drive, but I avoided the no-trizz by being out. Anyway - jin shin. I was lying there and a familiar cd of a Native American flute player played and ended, then something started playing I'd never heard before - a man's voice deep, resonant, and melodic. I wanted to listen to him all day.

After jin shin I asked Frank who it was: the Dalai Lama [This is actually an urban legend - the chanter is Dutch artist Hein Braat]. Not a commercial cd - someone had made an on-the spot recording during a meeting [not true]. Speaking of which, SWMNBMIMB might be meeting the Dalai Lama in Seattle on the 13th.

ZOMG THE WIND :(

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
---Christina Rossetti

When nasty great branches are torn from trees
And thrown against your panes,
Ye'll be happy as long as yer roof stays put
Nevermind that yer trizzities wane.

This post was saved onto notepad pending the arrival of teh intaweb trucks:

12:05ish am
Yay! Trizzities! There was an annoying false start [amount of time*] ago when everything burst into bloom and stayed on for about 25 seconds, then collapsed back into darkness. What a tease.

12:29 am
Of course, trizzities beget intarwebz, so the tubes are not always free and open to the truck traffic, and such is the case at the moment.

/me twiddles her thumbs...

I had time before going Out to set my rehearsal things to group and drop a pungi on Salazar, but not enough time to SAY I was setting things to group - I hope they tried to move the objects. The power went out as I was trying to make contact.

12:56 am
/me goes to bed.

I wrote a post and it got eaten when my power went off again :(

My power went off last night at about 7pm in a fierce windstorm, and just now came on. I was sitting here reading Hilaire Belloc as when I decided crazytalk was good I thought, "We'll off to Town, And purchase some," as in Hildebrand, Who was frightened by a Passing Motor, and brought to Reason." My father always said, when the children were arguing, "Birds in their little nest should agree," or perhaps, "Little birdies in their nest should agree," which is just paraphrased Belloc.

Anyway, I will buy crazytalk I reckon after I get things straightened out in my computer and my brain. I spent a lot of time (as usual) sorting things and dusting/polishing. I spent some time trying to untangle a billion-knot horrific tangle in a window thing that is owned by my landlord and which I think is very badly designed. I hate things which are badly designed. This has three cords acting as one, which operate the blindy-uppy-downy action. The cords, which could probably stretch from here to East McKeesport, Pennsylvania, lie in a nasty heap on the carpet and are at risk to being sucked down into the hoover. As my mother would say, "I could design a better one in my bloody sleep."

I also spent some time reading the Mechanical Drawing book I got from a junk store because I loved the drawings, but which seduces me every time I pop it open to gaze upon the plate cams and index plunger operating handles. It's from 1940 by way of 1919. Sometimes I scan the drawings and overlay them on things. Shame for them to go to waste.

I want to ask for thoughts about improving the world -- what do people need? How can things be organised?
